Welcome to Village Panchayat Pomburpa-Olaulim


It’s existence along the quite & calm river Mandovi on east, hills blessed with rich natural cover on west makes it unique. Viewing it from the heights of hills is a panoramic thriller. It is known for its Heritage and rich ecology too. One can see the widespread terraced type fields so also KHAJAN lands and a scenic view of Chorao island across the river. Village Pomburpa-Olaulim is combination of three villages i.e. Olaulim, Pomburpa and Ecoxim with a total population of 5000 people and approximately 1200 families spread along the river bank and valley of Golna , Arao/voll and Olaulim. Part of revenue village Salvador-do-Mundo comes in this V.P. jurisdiction. Its neighbouring villages are Aldona to the north and Salvador-do-Mundo towards south. The distance from capital city Panjim is 11 kms. and it is just 9kms. from Mapusa. The total stretch of village from its boundary towards north and other boundary touching village Salvador-do-Mundo is 5kms.

 

Village is blessed by its rich religious and cultural heritage. There exists a 350 years old chapel of St. Anne in Olaulim. Candeia Church in Palmar is the best example of Portuguese architecture. The feast of our lady of Candeia is celebrated on 2nd of February every year.The Shree Ram Panchayatan Mandir at Pomburpa and Shrikrishna temple in Ecoxim has glorious memories of past. Shree Ram Panchayatan temple is the oldest temple founded in 1860 and celebrates Ram Navami festival every year on occasion of birth of Lord Rama.

 

The two communidades, communidade of Olaulim and Communidade of Pomburpa controlled and contributed for the development of village before independence and continued to do so in the recent past with the grand returns from cashew laden hills, the fields, sluice gates. Agriculture and fishing remains the main occupation of the people. The point at which the sluice gate now lies at Muddi was once a trading point. Salt, tiles etc. was brought in while home grown produce was taken out in canoes for sale in fairs.

 

The famous Pomburpa spring on the tourist map of Goa gives the Village its unique identity. Spring is also known for its medicinal values.

Balkrishna Mahadev Bhosle, Krishna Shamba Shet, Sakharam Yeshwant Shirodkar, Amrut Babuso Chodankar, Raghunath Pundalik Shirodkar, Late Dr. Subrai Bhobhe., Major Sean Rodrigues, Engg. Indian Army, Late Nacimento Rodrigues, Major British Army(II World War) , noted musician late Babai Hadfadkar(Babai Master), well known marathi theatre artist and singer Pralhad Babai Hadfadkar, noted film editor Vaman Bhosle, Joe Rose (Joseph Mathias D’Souza)Veteran Konkani Tiatrist and Vice President of Tiatr Academy of Goa, Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues, Commissioner of Corporation of City of Panaji, Archbishop of Delhi Rev. Fr. Anil Couto, are some of the dignitaries who made this Village proud.
